Chiranjeevi got the portfolio he was aspiring for - tourism. A mega tourism project for Visakhapatnam involving Rs 2,000 crore is pending with the Centre. Besides, the long coast of the state and several places of religious importance are craving for attention from the tourism wing.

Other important portfolios were surface transport and railways. Except for the short stint of Bandaru Dattatreya in the NDA regime, state MPs have never got an opportunity to handle transport. “We always get a raw deal in converting state highways into national highways,” said senior R&B official. Sarve Satyanarayana, who got surface transport as MoS is expected to serve the state’s interests in this regard.

Similarly, railways is another area where state projects have been neglected. Kotla Jaya Suryay Prakash Reddy will look to better that record.
