Chit fund scam sees 1st ‘homicide’

A chit fund company owner was found dead in mysterious circumstances while an agent and another agent’s father killed themselves, continuing the spate of suicides connected to the chit fund scam.

On Monday morning, Jayanta Sarkar, in his late 40s, was found hanging at his house in Chinsurah, Hooghly. He was the MD of Hallo India Express, headquartered in Kolkata. Ruling out suicide, his family lodged a complaint of murder with the police against three men they said had visited him.
The police has registered a murder case.
