Christian delegation calls on CM
In the wake of attacks on two Christian missionary schools in the Valley during mob violence over the reported desecration of Quran in the US, a deputation of missionaries led by Rt. Rev. Pradeep Kumar Samantaroy, Bishop, Diocese of Amritsar, called on Jammu and Kashmir chief minister here on Saturday to seek protection to the minority institutions in the state.
A Raj Bhavan spokesperson said that Bishop Samantaroy, who is also chairman of the Valley’s oldest Tyndale-Biscoe and its girls’ wing Mallinson Educational Society, and others in the delegation submitted a memorandum to the governor in the context of the recent incidents in which a school at Tangmarg, 39-km west of here, was torched.
The other members of the delegation were Rev. Chandermani Khanna, Presbyter Incharge, All Saints’ Church, Srinagar and Mr Parwez Samuel Kaul, principal and director, Tyndale-Biscoe and Mallinson Educational Society. They recalled the significant contribution of Tyndale-Biscoe and Mallinson Educational Society in the Valley for the past over 125 years, particularly in the educational sector. They stressed the need for urgent effective measures being taken for ensuring the safety of their minority community and the security of their institutions and places of worship.
The governor observed that the Christian missionaries have been doing commendable work, especially in the education and healthcare sectors. Responding to the demand for ensuring the safety and security of the minority community, the governor informed that he had already discussed this matter with the CM.
