CID to probe terror suspect's murder; jail officer suspended
Maharashtra government on Friday announced a CID probe into the death of suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui in Pune's Yerwada Central jail.
Home Minister R.R. Patil announced a CID probe into the incident and also ordered suspension of the jail superintendent, S.V. Khatavkar, a spokesperson for the Home Minister said here.
Qateel, found dead in his prison cell, is suspected to have been strangled to death by some inmates following a brawl, police said.
Qateel, also an accused in Bangalore Chinnaswamy stadium blast, was arrested by Maharashtra ATS for allegedly attempting to carry out terror strike by planting a bomb outside Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapti temple.
He was arrested in November last year by the Delhi Police in connection with various blasts in the country.
