CID: suspicious hubby plotted wife’s murder
The criminal investigation department (CID) on Tuesday arrested the husband of the woman who, he had earlier alleged, was gangraped and murdered by a group of miscreants at a brick kiln in Barasat, North 24 Parganas. The accused, Mohsin Ali, was booked on the charge of murdering his wife on December 29 evening at Sonakhorki.
Ali had earlier claimed that the group, after gangraping and killing his wife, had forced him to drink acid which had left him injured.
He was admitted to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. The case took a controversial turn when state urban development minister Firhad Hakim, within a day of the incident, concluded that a domestic dispute was behind the crime. One person was also arrested by the district police.
But after the case was handed over to the CID, Ali’s suspicion about his wife’s character came to light, a police officer revealed.
CID’s deputy inspector general (operations) Shankar Chakraborty said, “Many inconsistencies were found in his statements. His acid injuries as per the medical report were also found to be self-inflicted.”
