Class 4 job offer upsets Karma son

Slain Congress leader Mahendra Karma’s son Chhabbindra on Monday lambasted the Chhattisgarh government for offering a Class 4 job on compassionate grounds following the killing of his father, a former minister, by Naxals at Jiram Ghati in Bastar on May 25, describing the proposal as “utterly humiliating”.

The family of late Karma, who was among half-a-dozen senior Congress leaders those were assassinated by Naxals on May 25 near Darbha valley in Bastar district, was shocked to receive a letter from local administration seeking documents relating to educational qualifications of the candidate proposed by them to get a Class 4 job in the state government on compassionate ground, according to the junior Karma.
The state government has directed the local administrations to offer Class 4 and Class 3 jobs to the next kin of victims of May 25 Naxal attack on the Congress convoy at Jiram Ghati.
“The local superintendent of police (SP) has sent us a message to forward name of the kin who could be rehabilitated in the government job. Accordingly, we have sent the name of my younger brother Ashish Karma, who is a post-graduate and preparing for UPSC examination. Shockingly, my brother has been offered a Class 4 job,” Mr Chhabbindra said, adding, “It is sheer humiliation to my family”.
“My late father was a former minister and member of Parliament. My younger brother is well-qualified. We have proposed to give him the post of either deputy collector or deputy superintendent of police (DSP) as per his qualification. How do they expect my brother to join a Class 4 job,” he added.
“It is an indecent proposal. The BJP government is offering Class 4 and 3 jobs to dependants of senior Congress leaders. It is just like adding insult to injury,” Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress committee chief and Union minister of state for agriculture Charan Das Mahant said.
