classroom turns into polling booth
Thrissur: The Salsabeel Central School, at Mudoor, witnessed a rare election in the second consecutive year. The school authority conducted an election to the school assembly, on Wednesday, which gave students a clear picture of the election procedure.
“Election is a complex exercise that involves schedules, rules and machinery. This exercise gave students a clear picture of the general elections. We think this exercise will inspire students to participate in the great democratic system,” opined school principal C.A. Francis.
The election began when the principal issued a notification for the election of school Prefects and also came out with a poll schedule. Students were given time to file nominations which were then scrutinised for the final fray. Campaigning was the most interesting part with students coming out with a manifesto and open debates.
Ballot papers were printed with the names of the candidates and election symbols allotted. The student police ensured ‘law and order’.Teachers donned the role of the polling officers. The left forefinger of the voters was marked with the ink. P. Rahul Ashok was elected ‘Head Boy’ and Shirin Sahana ‘Head Girl through the election.
