Clinical bill introduced in House
The Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Bill, which seeks to make registration of all clinical establishments mandatory, was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
While introducing the bill, Union health and family welfare minister Ghulam Nabi Azad stated that the country required a regulatory mechanism for the medical sector which was so far unregulated. “Though health is a state subject, the bill was being introduced as four states — Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim — had passed a resolution in their respective Assemblies asking for such a law to be framed,” he added. He said the law will also be applicable to the Union territories and other states if they pass a resolution adopting the Bill.
