CM comforts Thane-hit, Karuna seeks central aid
CM Jayalalithaa promised people of the cyclone-ravaged Cuddalore district Wednesday full state support in rehabilitation.
Handing over assistance to the tune of Rs 2.85 crore to 6,036 affected at a function, she appealed to the people to not worry. CM said her government would ensure all those who have lost boats, crops, properties and other belongings would be rehabilitated.
“This is your government and it will provide all necessary assistance. The government has released Rs 750 crore to restore power and water supply, relay roads and provide other facilities in cyclone-affected areas,” Ms Jayalalithaa said, promising a bright future.
She instructed government officials to complete relief operations by Thursday. Meanwhile, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said he would urge the Centre to provide necessary assistance to Tamil Nadu to take up relief works.
He told reporters after visiting cyclone-hit areas in Puducherry and Cuddalore that DMK would provide Rs 50 lakh to those affected.
