CM showers praises on BSY
The âcarrot and stickâ policy adopted by the BJP leadership in dealing with rebellious former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa, became more than evident on Thursday when CM Sadananda Gowda showered praise on his predecessor.
The accolades came a day after the CM ruled out the Lingayat strongmanâs reinstatment in the top post, citing the eight cases pending against him.
While honouring farmers with Krishi Ratna, Krishi Pandit and Krishi Prashasthi awards, the CM gave credit to Yeddyurappa for his pro-farmer policies.
âYeddyurappa took oath as CM in the name of the farmer. And true to his word, he tabled a separate Agri budget, which was the first in the country. Over the last three years, the government has extended loans to farmers at 1 per cent interest, waived off loans, provided free power and promoted organic farming,â said Mr Gowda, adding that the BJP government, believed in creating an environment which helps farmers lead a life of dignity and build self confidence.
Defending his governmentâs decision to host an Agri Investorâs Summit, Mr Gowda said the Summit has brought in investments worth Rs 1.10 lakh crore and is sure to add value to what a farmer produces.
âWe are proud of the fact that the State registered foodgrain production of 140 lakh tonnes last year. To boost yield, we will be sharing expertise on better agri practices and technology with China and Israel.â
Raitha Sangha president K.S. Puttanaiah wanted the government to declare the birth anniversary of the doyen of the farmersâ movement, Prof. Nanjundaswamy as Raithara Dina (Farmers Day).
