CM talks action plan with PC
Mr Omar Abdullah, who heads the National Conference-Congress coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, met Mrs Sonia Gandhi on Saturday and discussed with her the functioning of his government. Sources said Mrs Gandhi expressed her satisfaction over the handling of the situation by the state government and assured the full support of her party. He also met the Prime Minister and the home minister.
Refuting the Opposition’s allegations that he was losing control over the government, Mr Abdullah said: “Had I lost control the situation would have worse.” He said the decision to deploy the Army was taken after the state government and various agencies felt there was a need to put an end to the large protests and the cycle of violence that resulted in deaths in the Valley. On the withdrawal of the Army, the CM said, “As far as I am concerned, a decision has to be taken in the light of the result that it (deployment of Army) delivered, the result wanted.”
The plan of action received focused attention in the CM’s meeting with Mr Chidambaram. The CM discussed issues relating to the state’s youth and creation of adequate employment opportunities with the PM who asked the chief minister to send him a comprehensive proposal.
