Colonel’s wife held as car hits auto, 2 killed
Two people were killed and two others grievously injured when a speeding Honda City driven by an inebriated woman hit an autorickshaw in Delhi Cantonment late on Saturday night.
The police said Nivedita Singh, 30, wife of a serving Army colonel, lost control and it hit an autorickshaw near the Indian Oil petrol pump at Delhi Cantonment’s Gopinath Market around 11.30 pm.
Nivedita was arrested and charged with causing death by rash and negligent driving, and some other counts. She was later released on bail after furnishing a bond of Rs 50,000.
The auto driver, Raj Kumar, a father of five, died on the spot, while his three passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, where one, Ved Prakash Gupta, a shopkeeper, later succumbed to his injuries. Police sources said Nivedita, after arrest, was found with “dangerous” levels of alcohol in her blood. She is believed to have been going home from a party when the accident occurred.
The two other passengers in the auto, Jeet and Megh Singh, were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital with serious injuries. Their condition is stable, the police said.
