Confusion over Mukul Roy’s appointment
Doubts are still being raised whether Trinamul Congress leader Mukul Roy would finally be appointed as minister for railways. So far, Mr Roy has been given the additional charge of railways as minister of state, with the Prime Minister holding the Cabinet portfolio. Sources disclosed that it remains to be seen whether Mr Roy is
upgraded to Cabinet rank in the next reshuffle or whether West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee would nominate another party man to replace her in Rail Bhavan here.
“Given her style of functioning, it cannot be conclusively said that Mr Roy is Didi’s final choice as minister for railways. He has been nominated for some time as she needs some time to settle in the Writers’ Buildings and there is still some time left before the next Cabinet reshuffle takes place,” sources said, adding that hopes for other senior leaders is alive.
During elections to the local bodies in Bengal last year when the list of candidates for the Kolkata Municipal polls was finalised, sources said: “Somehow one of the party candidates could come to know about his candidature. He indulged in pre-mature celebration with people of his ward. This irked Didi and she struck off his name in the list.”
