Confusion over release of sarabjit

There were contradictory statements regarding the release of Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who was awarded the death sentence for his involvement in terror incidents in Pakistan.
Sarabjit Singh has been in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail for more than two decades. Pakistani ambassador to the US Sherry Rehman tweeted that Sarabjit Singh would be released in the coming week, but Pakistan interior minister Rehman Malik denied all such reports. Ms Rehman added that the release would pave a new way for Pak-India ties. In Islamabad, Mr Malik said, “I can tell only when a decision is taken. Until now things stand as they were.”
There has been no progress on Sarabjit’s mercy petition.

Differences within BJP on prez polls?

There are serious differences among BJP leaders over the strategy to be adopted for the presidential elections.
According to sources, while Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi favours supporting Mr P.A Sangma who is being backed by AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, Mr L.K. Advani and Ms Sushma Swaraj are of the view that it has always been the practice for regional parties to back the BJP’s candidate, not vice versa.
