Cong calls BJP ‘political opportunist’
Lashing out at main Opposition BJP for undertaking Rashtriya Ekta Yatra to Srinagar to hoist national flag at Lal Chowk, the ruling Congress claimed the move to be the “most naked manifestation of political opportunism”. It also asked the main Opposition as to why the party did not undertake any such march when NDA was in power for six years.
Talking to reporters at the AICC headquarters here, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “The Tiranga Yatra of BJP is possibly the most naked manifestation of political opportunism. Srinagar is a part of India. It is not Muzaffarabad (in Pakistan) where you go to hoist the flag. Why this yatra did not come out when NDA was in power for six years. This is rank political opportunism. The use of the national symbol for political gains needs to be condemned.” Taking a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party party for the mess in Karnataka, the AICC spokesperson said, “If at all this yatra has to be taken, it should have taken in the opposite direction. It should be towards Bangalore, which also a state in India and where the rule of law does not prevail and constitutional machinery has failed.”
Putting a question mark on the rationale behind the BJP’s yatra, Mr Tewari said, the alienation among people of the state need to be addressed and suggested that political parties in the country should introspect.
