Cong faces BJP ire on inflation
The main Opposition BJP on Friday said the government should admit that it has failed in controlling price rise. The party claimed that food inflation has hit the highest ever level while overall inflation has crossed nine per cent. The party alleged that while government is harping on growth rate, the common man is finding it hard to manage the basic three meals a day.
The party alleged that the “economist” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has failed to control price rise and suggested that instead of tom-tomming GDP growth and “hoodwinking” people, the government should admit its failure on this issue. “Food inflation is hitting the highest ever level in contemporary times while overall inflation is crossing 9 per cent. The Prime Minister and his government seems to be tom-tomming the GDP growth calling it as good. What good is such a growth which keeps away the common man from his daily rations?” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy asked.
The party termed as an “eyewash” the actions taken by the government to check prices. It alleged the government and the PMO are unaware of the ground realities. BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said government “claims” that prices were going up due to increase in consumption was a “white lie”.
as there was enough stock of wheat, oil and other consumable.
“The common people are experiencing a very hard time to meet their day to day food requirements. The consumption of eggs, meat and other non-vegetable items is only a matter of dream. The government claim is totally hollow and irresponsible,” Mr Naqvi said. He alleged that the government was hand in glove with corrupt hoarders and was creating artificial inflation.
