Cong to form village units in Rajasthan

The ruling Congress party in Rajasthan has decided to constitute its units at village panchayats levels to broaden the organisation’s support. The party also launched a series of activities to strengthen itself.
“We are going to constitute units at all 9,000 gram panchayats in the state,” said a Congress leader. The party has undertaken the task to revamp its units at town level.
According to the party sources, it was the first time when the Congress is going to form units at gram panchayats. Earlier the party had units upto block levels.
“The forming of party units at village panchayat levels will be completed in next three months, the work is under way,” said a party leader.

WIFE to contest against minister?
AGE CORRESPONDENT
Lucknow, Jan. 29

In an unexpected turn of events, the wife of BSP minister Nand Gopal Nandi sent shock waves in political circles when she filed nomination papers against her husband as an Independent candidate from the Allahabad south seat.
Abhilasha Gupta, Mr Nandi’s wife, had accompanied her husband when he filed his nomination from the same seat on January 25.
Mr Nandi, who was a businessman before venturing into politics, had pulled off a sensational victory in the 2007 Assembly polls, defeating heavyweights like former Assembly Spe-aker and the then state BJP president Kesari Nath Tripathi and UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi. He was also severely injured in a bomb attack outside his residence here on July 12, 2010. Supporters of the minister said that in 2007 too, Abhilasha had filed her papers and had later withdrawn in favour of her husband. “She may have filed her papers as a back-up measure and is not going to contest against her husband,” said a aide of the minister.
The couple was unavailable for comment.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
