Cong hails SC verdict stay order
Hailing the Supreme Court’s order staying the high court judgment on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit by a week, Congress on Thursday said, the party always believed that an out-of-court solution in the vexed issue arrived through mutual agreement should be the first priority.
Reacting on the top court’s order in the case, AICC general secretary and chairman of the media department of the party Janardhan Dwivedi said, “The Supreme Court has given the order with good intentions and everybody should welcome it. Congress has always believed that the first priority is that the issue is resolved through mutual understanding amidst goodwill and appreciating the feelings of each other.”
Mr Dwivedi, however, further added that if that was not possible, “the verdict of the court should be acceptable to all”. Responding to questions on the top court’s order, which stayed by a week the Friday pronouncement of the judgment by the Allahabad high court, the senior Congress leader said, “We believe the court has given the order keeping this spirit in mind and everyone should welcome this.”
Meanwhile, another senior Congress leader, on the condition of anonymity, agreed to the formulations made by Mr Dwivedi suggesting a mutually-agreed solution, but he feared that fringe elements are there, who have the potential to thwart any such move.
“Had this been possible, solution could have been found many years before,” he added.
