Cong hits at Maya, calls for change in UP
Enthused by a large turnout at their first “Parivartan rally” in Basti district on Sunday, the UP Congress gave a call for change and asked the people to overthrow the Mayawati government in the next Assembly elections.
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said that corruption in the Mayawati government had reached a peak and even the poorest of the poor was not being benefited by various welfare scheme because of rampant corruption.
“In the past 22 years, Uttar Pradesh has seen non-Congress governments that have pushed the state back by 50 years. A Congress government in the state is needed to pull it back on the rails of development,” he said and called upon the youth to join the campaign to oust the Mayawati government and bring in a Congress government.
Union minister for surface transport, Jitin Prasada, said that Congress had formulated schemes for all sections of society but poor implementation of the same was a major problem.
He said that winds of change had started blowing in the state and the Congress would return to power in the next polls.
Union minister for minority affairs Salman Khurshid also targeted the Samajwadi Party and the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party when he said that the Congress had always ensured the welfare of minorities and Dalits but the Mayawati government’s laidback attitude had proved to be a major impediment. He also criticised the state government for the sharply deteriorating law and order situation in UP.
Congress MP and CWC member Raj Babbar said that hope for the youth lay in the formation of a Congress government in UP and they must strengthen the hands of Mr Rahul Gandhi to create a better future for themselves and the country.
Congress legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari said that the Mayawati government was the most corrupt government that he had seen in his entire political career.
