Cong intensifies attacks on BJP, Maya and Anna
The Congress Party on Thursday intensified its attack on BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati and the civil society group led by social activist Anna Hazare. It asked senior BJP leaders L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj to “pull up” Mr Gadkari’s ears for his anti-Sonia Gandhi remarks and Ms Mayawati to declare her income-tax returns if she is really concerned about corruption.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh dubbed Mr Gadkari as a “disciple” of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and said the BJP chief’s remarks against Mrs Gandhi in Kolkata was condemnable.
He alleged that Mr Gadkari, who has never contested an election, has amassed wealth to the tune of thousands of crores of rupees and should not talk on the issue of corruption. He wanted the BJP chief to declare his income-tax and wealth tax returns.
He said that Mr Advani and Ms Swaraj needed to “pull up” Mr Gadkari.
Reacting to Ms Mayawati’s allegations that the Congress is the “mother of corruption” in the country, Mr Singh drew attention to her disproportionate assets case pending in the apex court.
“Those living in glass houses should not throw stones at others,” was his message to Ms Mayawati.
Mr Singh Singh told reporters that it will be better, if Ms Mayawati does not talk of corruption as she is among those CMs against whom case is on in Supreme Court about disproportionate assets.
Mr Singh said that Ms Mayawati should tell people how she has gained so much of wealth after joining politics.
On Anna Hazare’s threat to go on hunger strike from August 16 on Lokpal Bill, he said instead Mr Hazare, Mr Arvind Kejriwal should sit in an indefinnite fast.
