Cong leaders meet Bhatt kin
Congress leaders Shaktisinh Gohil and Narhari Amin on Sunday visited the family of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who has been arrested for allegedly threatening a constable and fabricating evidence.
“We extended our support and sympathies to them,” former Gujarat deputy chief minister Narhari Amin said after he and Leader of the Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil met Mr Bhatt’s family.
“We have family-like relations with the Bhatts for so many years. It is unfortunate that a serving IPS officer is treated like this,” Mr Amin said.
“More than 40 policemen searched Bhatt’s house on Friday evening, what kind of treatment was this?” Mr Amin asked, adding, “This shows they are acting directly under the chief minister (Narendra Modi’s) orders.”
The two leaders stayed there for over 20 minutes and assured Mr Bhatt’s family of full support.
Senior Congress leader and former Gujarat chief minister Shankarsinh Vaghela also visited Mr Bhatt’s family Sunday evening to express his support.
The state government’s actions is nothing but “political vendetta” against an upright police officer who spoke against the government, he said.

Make public approval of dignitaries: CIC
New Delhi, Oct. 2: The Central Inform-ation Commission has directed the external affairs ministry to make public recommendations for allotment of government’s Haj quota made by the President, the Prime Minister and other dignitaries during the last five years.
The external affairs ministry had refused to provide the information in reply to a RTI query saying it was confidential and cannot be provided.
Rejecting the contentions of the ministry, information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi directed it that any information sought by an applicant can only be denied within the ambit of exemption clauses of the Right to Information Act.
He directed the ministry to provide these details before October 10.
About 1.70 lakh pilgrims from India visit Saudi Arabia for Haj every year.
According to the ministry, government’s own quota for this year is 6,000.
This quota is normally filled through recommendations of VIPs like President, vice-president, Prime Minister, ministers, MPs and other dignitaries.
Mumbai-based RTI applicant A.M. Attar had sought from the external affairs ministry details of recommendation letters during the past five years which was denied to him. — PTI
