Cong may get in 2 mantris Friday
The Congress, set to join the Mamata government in Bengal, is likely to get in two ministers during the first phase of the Cabinet formation on Friday.
One is likely to be a minority face, Mr Mohammed Sohrab. The names of Ajay Dey and Rabindra Chatterjee are doing the rounds for the second berth.
Sources disclosed that the Congress has asked for six berths which include three Cabinets and three ministers of state.
Other probables include Mr Abhijit Mukherjee and Mr Debaprasad Roy of the Congress. Some of the portfolios which might be given to the Congress include PWD, fisheries, irrigation and agriculture.
The Congress Legislature Party, which has 42 newly-elected MLAs, would meet in Kolkata on Thursday to discuss the issue.
The party would also decide its CLP leader during the meet. Senior Congress leaders, including in-charge of state affairs Shakeel Ahmed and defence minister A.K. Antony, are expected to be present at the meeting.
Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee will also be there.
Officially, the Congress has not yet announced its decision to join the government.
“The decision will be taken in a day’s time by the party high command,” a senior party functionary said.
Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who is expected to resign as the Union railway minister on Thursday, is slated to be sworn in as the state chief minister on Friday. In the first phase, she might go in a 20-member ministry, sources said.
Meanwhile, the state Pradesh Congress Committee president, Mr Manas Bhunia, who met party president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, will also meet AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
