Cong to meet the same fate in UP as Digvijay did in UP: Bharti
A day after being fielded as a candidate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, BJP leader Uma Bharti on Thursday said she will work for the defeat of Congress in the state the way she made Digvijay Singh ‘bite the dust’ in Madhya Pradesh.
Hitting back at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for his reported remarks that Bharti was from MP though she was contesting from UP, she said the young leader should remember that his mother Sonia Gandhi is from Italy and has been accepted in India.
"...I only come from Madhya Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi has to remember the background of his mother. Only then he should comment on his bua (aunt)," she told reporters.
Bharti, who has been fielded from Charkari in Bundelkhand region, said she had made Rahul's ‘guru’ Digvijay Singh ‘bite the dust’ in Madhya Pradesh.
"Now guru-chela are in Uttar Pradesh, I will repeat what I had done to them in Madhya Pradesh," she said.
Coming down hard on the Centre's move to provide 4.5 per cent sub quota to minorities within the 27 per cent quota for OBCs, the BJP leader said, "Congress will pay heavily for its divisive policies. While the minority should get education and employment, it should not be at the cost of OBCs."
