Cong minister cites Modi-model at MP meet
Union minister of state for heavy industries Arun Yadav took everyone attending the Global Investors Summit here on Saturday by surprise when he cited the example of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in Gujarat as he went on to advise the Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan that his administrative set up should also be prompt in facilitating and providing facilities to investors through a single window system.
Mr Yadav, who is a Congress MP from Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh, was speaking at the valedictory session of the two-day summit organised here by the Madhya Pradesh government. He spelt out the need for improving the road network keeping in view the transport needs linked with the rapidly expanding power sector. He urged the state government to pay attention to the demand for lowering the burden of taxes on industry.
Citing the example of Mandi Tax, he said it has forced many spinning mills to close their units in Madhya Pradesh and migrate to Maharashtra.
Mr Yadav said that the MoUs signed at this summit should be implemented and translated into reality on top priority. Mr Yadav turned to the CM and said they should replicate the “Gujarat system” and provide power, water, roads and land for setting up industries through a single window system. The Madhya Pradesh chief minister was quick to respond.
In his speech Mr Chouhan said he would personally monitor the implementation of MoUs.
He would play the role of a single window for investors if they face any hurdle or road blockade, the chief minister emphasised.
Later addressing media-persons, Mr Chouhan said he is happy that a Minister in the UPA government was all praise for the working of the Narendra Modi government.
