Cong warns Jagan, but he’s still defiant
The Congress leadership on Tuesday again warned Andhra MP Jaganmohan Reddy not to undertake his planned odarpu yatra from July 8, the birth anniversary of his late father Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, but it looks highly unlikely that he will bow to this demand.
The party’s message was loud and clear: “All true committed and loyal Congressmen must necessarily observe both the party dharma and lakshman rekha of propriety and party discipline. Failure to do so would perforce lead to a chain of consequences which are best avoidable. We hope and trust that compliance will take the place of defiance, said party spokesman Abhishek “Manu” Singhvi.
Party sources said, however, that disciplinary action is not being contemplated even if he does not comply. Jaganmohan’s yatra is said to be to console the families of those who died in shock or grief over YSR’s death, but an earlier such attempt had to be called off as it led to riots in the Telangana region. The party leadership had been sceptical about his yatra even then, but with 12 Assembly byelections immiment in Telengana the Congress is more nervous about the fallout of such a yatra.
Mr Jagan Reddy has tried several times to convince the high command of his yatra’s objective, but to no avail.
