Cong: Will read Bofors report first
The Congress on Monday refused to give instant reaction on the I-T tribunal findings that kickbacks of `41 crore were paid to late Win Chaddha and Ottavio Quattrocchi in the Bofors gun deal, but main Opposition BJP found this an opportunity to take a swipe at the ruling party.
“We have heard it only an hour before. We are not going to react to it in a hurry only because such a news has appeared in media or the Opposition has reacted to it. We will have to see the order first and then only we will give a response. Congress is not known for giving knee-jerk reactions,” AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said at the party’s regular briefing.
The party’s comments came after the Opposition mounted attack on Congress over the report of the ITAT.

Jan. 3: Amid the dramatic rise of air traffic in the last few months of 2010, cash-strapped national carrier Air India said on Monday that it had made a profit of `21.66 crore in November, 2010, and described it as a “record” in recent times. In the past few years, Air India has been consistently incurring losses of over `5,000 crore every financial year. A senior Air India official said this was the first time in at least the past five years that such a profit had been made in any month. Sources added that this could herald a turnaround in the fortunes of the national carrier.
“Air India has posted an operating surplus (cash profit) of `21.66 crores in November 2010, a record in recent times. This has been largely possible due to significant improvement in efficiency parameters, coupled by better yield management strategies and a mushrooming number of passengers showing faith in the national carrier,” Air India stated on Monday.
