Congress comes out with UP list
AICC secretary Abdul Mannan, UPCC spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh and former NSUI president Nadeem Javed figure in the second list of 62 Congress candidates announced on Thursday for the 2012 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Mannan will be contesting from Kanpur Cantt while Mr Singh will be in the fray from Rudrapur in Deoria district.
Mr Javed will contest from Jaunpur while Mohammad Muslim, a former minister in the state government, has been given the party ticket from the Tiloi constituency in Rae Bareli.
The party has fielded at least 10 candidates from minorities while the number of women in this list is eight.
The women candidates are Urmila Singh (Karhal), Sunita Kovid Singh (Tilhar), Mayawati (Sri Nagar), Begum Ishrat Rasool (Sandila), Talat Aziz ((Paniyara), Kajal Nishad (Gorakhpur Rural), Shashi Sharma (Fazingar) and Shrungari Gautam (Mehanagar).
The minority candidates are Fakhre Ahmed Shobi (Badaun), Syed Zaki Asharfi (Pilibhit), Begum Ishrat Rasool (Sandila), Dr M.H. Khan (Purwa), Abdul Mannan (Kanpur Cantt), Ali Akbar (Matera), Ashiq Ali (Utraula), Talat Aziz (Paniyara) and Mohammed Nadeem Javed (Jaunpur).
In the second list, candidates have also been declared for 17 reserved constituencies.
The Congress has already declared 73 candidates in its first list.
The prominent names in the first list include Union minister Salman Khurshid’s wife Louis Khurshid, PCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and CLP leader Pramod Tiwari.
Polls in the state for the 403-member Assembly are due in April next year. The Assembly has to be constituted by May 13.
