Congress fast-tracks poll work
The ruling Rajasthan Congress has speed up the process to select candidates for the up coming Assembly elections and asked the block level committees to hold meetings by August 7 to shortlist names. Sources said exercise to prepare constituency-wise panels will be completed by August 22.
“It was AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s idea to final-ise name of candidates on time and also ensure involvement of grassroots-level workers in the process,” said a party leader. The party has also made it clear that if block or district committees refuse to include name of an aspirant, he may present his case before the PCC.
The block committees will finalise the names of deserving candidates in presence of observers sent by the district committees. The party has directed district committees to complete selection process by August 14 and send it to the PCC. “The election committee headed by PCC chief Chan-darbhan will discuss the names referred by the block and district committees in the last week of this month,” said a party leader.

Ishrat case: Order on Pandey’s advance bail plea reserved
Ahmedabad, Aug. 3: The special court for CBI cases here on Saturday reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea of additional director general of police Prithvi Pal Pandey, an accused in Ishrat Jahan case, till August 6.
The court is hearing his application afresh on the directions of the Gujarat HC which has restrained CBI from arresting the IPS officer till August 6.
Judge Gita Gopi is likely to pass the order on Tuesday. Earlier, Pandey’s lawyer argued “CBI has been chasing Pandey and wanted to send him behind the bars by hook or by crook....Despite the high court directing CBI not to arrest Pandey till August 6, the agency filed an application seeking his judicial custody.” — PTI
