'Congress has no respect for any Constitutional mechanism', alleges BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday charged the Congress-led UPA government of looting the nation through rampant corruption and alleged that the ruling party has no honour or respect for any Constitutional mechanism.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar accused the Congress regime of disrupting the parliamentary proceedings by looting the nation.

"We are not disturbing the house, the Congress regime by looting the country is disrupting the country. And that is why proceedings of the house are disturbed. Congress has no honour or any respect for any Constitutional mechanism. The way they have scuttled the PAC report on 2G testifies this. And that is why we are not buying their argument, discuss and let us to go to PAC," said Javadekar.

"What did you did with PAC in case of 2G? What are you doing on JPC on the issue of 2G? This is the Congress way of protecting the corruption for which we are fighting against it. We are fighting for the people against the loot of this country," he added.

Both Houses of the Parliament were adjourned till 2 pm earlier in the day after the opposition stick to their demand for Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's resignation over the CAG report on coal block allocations.

In the Lok Sabha, members belonging to BJP and Left parties trooped into the well of the house forcing Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn the house first till noon and later till 2 pm.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha also. As soon the house met for the day, the BJP leaders raised the issue forcing Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari to adjourn the house till 2 pm.

The UPA government, however, condemned the BJP's move to disrupt the parliamentary proceedings, saying the allegations levelled against the Centre are absolutely baseless and incorrect.

"It is extremely unfortunate that the BJP is contemplating over not allowing the Parliament to function. We have repeatedly told then that we are ready for discussion on any issue. Earlier, they used to say that the government is not ready for discussion, but now we have said that we are ready for discussion," said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.

"The allegations that they are levelling against us is completely baseless, there is no truth and logic in it," he added.

The UPA Government had earlier on Tuesday rejected the opposition demand for Prime Minister's resignation, saying it is ready for discussion in Parliament on CAG report on coal block allocation.

"It was up to the opposition to decide if it wanted a democracy or a mobocracy. If they feel they have a point, let them debate it on the floor of the Parliament. The Congress is ready to match them point for point," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.

The BJP, however, is sticking to its demand for the Prime Minister's resignation, saying ' Coalgate' has broken all records of corruption.

The BJP has held the Prime Minister, who then held direct charge of the Coal Ministry, responsible for what has been estimated as loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crores by the CAG in coal block allocation and demanded his resignation.

The CAG report on coal block allocation states that nearly 150 coalfields were allotted to private and state-run firms without transparency and objectivity between 2005 and 2009.

The report does not indict the Prime Minister or his office. But the BJP is emphasizing on the fact that for three of the years under scrutiny, the Prime Minister held the coal portfolio.
