Congress is misleading people in Assam, says AGP

Asom Gana Parishad president Chandra Mohan Patowary here on Tuesday claimed that the first phase of polling has sealed the dream of Congress for a third term in Assam.

Claiming that a wave of change was quite visible in massive turnout of the electorate in the first phase of polls, Mr Patowary slammed the Congress for misleading the public with false information through advertisements published or aired through various media. Addressing public meetings in lower Assam districts, Mr Patowary said that the outgoing Congress government was a government of “sign board development”.
Claiming that the ruling party succeeded in laying down hundreds of foundation stones besides hanging signboards, Mr Patoway said that Mr Gogoi has laid hundreds of foundation stones without proper approval of the projects.
He said that the chief minister Tarun gogoi should read the writings on the walls predicting his defeat.
He alleged that the Congress has been “living on lies over the years” and is doing so even now. The national party has always tried to mislead the people of the state with promises it doesn't keep. “Their fake promises never seem to end”, he said.
Even in the advertisements they have circulated through various newspapers and other media, they have documented wrong information in a bid to woo the people,” alleged Mr Patowary.
He said in one such advertisement published in newspapers on Thursday, the Congress said it has built 25,000 km of roads across the state, whereas the reality is that the central government has sanctioned funds for 13,000 km of roads and till now some 5,000 km have been completed. He added that this is an example of how the Congress party distorts facts.
The AGP said that during the last 10 years, the state was languishing at the bottom in everything except corruption.
“These days people are politically conscious and they know what is right or wrong for them, so, I do not think any publicity stunt would help any party gain votes.
The level of corruption has been so high that people are bound to bring about a change,” he added.
