Congress seeks 'kolaveri' connect
After A.R. Rahman, Congress has turned to another Chennai talent to shore up its poll prospects.
Though the party has decided to stick to its lucky theme song Jai Ho, it is also exploring the possibility of using the popular Why this kolaveri di? featuring Dhanush to connect with the youth ahead of the UP Assembly elections.
Leading Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran reported Monday the Congress management was trying to acquire the copyright to Why this kolaveri di? to adopt it as the party’s second theme song.
The daily claimed Dhanush had raised some objections and wanted to have a first look at the song being prepared by Congress, but actor-parliamentarian Raj Babbar convinced him and negotiations were on to finalise a deal.
Dhanush, however, told DC he was not aware of any such attempt. “It’s news to me,” he said.
“I am not sure they have spoken to Sony yet because they are the copyright-holders,” the actor said.
Asked whether he would mind the song being part of a political party’s election campaign, Dhanush said, “It is not a political song.”
The Hindi daily quoted sources that while Jai Ho focused on Rahul Gandhi, kolaveri di would be used to highlight good governance and the secularism plank of Congress and target rivals.
