Congress sets up team to counter Modi
New Delhi: The war between the Congress and the BJP is expected to reach fever pitch over the next few days with the Sonia Gandhi-led party constituting a six-member team to counter the propaganda machine run by the main opposition party ahead of a series of Assembly polls in 2013 and the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
The team, headed by Congress general secretary and AICC media department chief Janardan Dwivedi, is holding its first meeting on May 2, said Congress spokesman Sandeep Dikshit on Monday.
Other members of the team include political secretary to the Congress president Ahmed Patel, minister of state in the PMO V. Narayanasamy, minister of state for information and broadcasting Manish Tewari and Lok Sabha members Deepender Singh Hooda and Sandeep Dikshit. Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh will also be part of the team, Mr Dikshit said.
Hooda will head the social media wing, while Mr Dikshit the research group as the team will brainstorm over the party strategy at the Congress's “war room” on Gurdwara Rakabganj Road in New Delhi.
Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, touted as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, has created his own network to project a favourable image. Modi's team is known to be well equipped, well informed and ready to act. The network is effective in social media, electronic media and print media, concede Congress insiders.
