Congress slams Gadkari for remarks
New Delhi, July 9: Congress leaders reacted sharply to the BJP president, Mr Nitin Gadkari, asking if the Congress considered Afzal Guru as a son-in-law to give his case preferential treatment.
Mr Shakeel Ahmed warned that the party should not be held responsible if “something untoward happens” after Congress workers reacted to such remarks.
While there were whispers within BJP ranks against the Gadkari brand of politics, its JD(U) ally was more forthright in expressing its displeasure. Making it clear that he disapproved of what the BJP president was reported to have said, the JD(U) president, Mr Sharad Yadav, pointed out that “many things can be said... within the limits of decency.”
Criticising Mr Gadkari’s remarks, the Samajwadi Party said the BJP and the RSS should ask him to desist from making such statements. “The SP criticises such a statement coming from the president of a party which claims to be an alternative force,” the SP said.
