Congress trains guns on BJP over land row
New Delhi, Nov. 17: Turning the heat on the main Opposition BJP on the issue of corruption, the Congress on Wednesday accused the saffron party of having double standards on the issue. It asked the BJP to sack the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, in the wake of a controversy surrounding allocation of land to his son.
The BJP, however, rejected the allegations against the Chief Minister by saying that the land in question was allotted during Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy’s rule, which was later cancelled by a court order.
The AICC spokesperson, Mr Manish Tewari, said the BJP should ask the Karnataka Chief Minister to step down and the whole issue needs to be investigated by an agency independent of the state’s jurisdiction.
“Any inquiry into the matter carried out under the accountant-general of Karnataka will not be impartial,” he said.
The BJP national spokesperson, Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, said there was no question of Mr Yeddyurappa resigning.
