Contempt of court against Bhushan
Activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan will be proceeded with a contempt of court case by the SC on its suo moto motion for casting aspersion against Chief Justice of India S.H. Kapadia, some former CJIs and judges in a media interview. A three-judge bench comprising Justices Altamas Kabir, Cyriac Joseph and H.L. Dattu rejected the
argument of Mr Bhushan’s counsel Ram Jethmalani that the motion was not maintainable due to some procedural flaws, including it not being approved by the Attorney-General of India.
Mr Bhushan had raised question in his interview to weekly publication Tehlka in 2009 against Justice Kapadia’s presence in forest bench to hear Vedanta’s Orissa mining case when he had some shares of the company.
