Cops to parents: Try carpooling for wards
Chennai: With a view to reduce the number of vehicles on road once the schools re-open on Monday, the Chennai traffic police has asked parents to try car pooling to send their wards to school.
“Car pooling will bring down the number of vehicles on roads. Vehicles transporting children usually slow down the flow of traffic in the city. So, one of our suggestions to parents is to go for car pooling,” a police officer noted.
If parents drive their children to schools in their own vehicles, they should go well in advance to avoid traffic congestion. They should also leave the area immediately after dropping the children. The school management can interact with local police to chalk out plans to manage vehicles in which students are dropped and picked up.
The school and college buses should not be parked on roads once the students alight from vehicles.
The police have also asked parents to avoid sending their children to school in overcrowded vehicles. “It is better for the school managements to employ adequate staff to monitor the entry and exit of students,” the officer added.
