Cops probe ghatak kin case as murder
In a fresh twist in the death case of Aditi Ghatak, the granddaugther of filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak, the police started its probe on murder charge following a court order. A case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been added to the case which was initiated at the Sonarpur police station in South 24 Parganas earlier.
Citing the findings of the deceased’s post-mortem report, the police on Monday had ruled out any foul play in Aditi’s death and had insisted on treating the case on rash driving and causing grievous hurt charges.
But Aditi’s mother Sanhita Ghatak had complained to the police alleging murder.
A senior officer of the Sonarpur police station said, “On Tuesday, we submitted a prayer to the additional chief judicial magistrate at the Baruipur court for the treatment of the family’s complaint.”
He added, “On Wednesday, the court granted the prayer. The section of murder charge has been added in the case which started on charges of 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by endangering life) of the IPC.”
Meanwhile, the inspection of Gyanjit Patar’s car by a team of experts of the forensic science laboratory
apparently revealed of no mechanical fault, according to sources. Gyanjit, the culprit, is still absconding. The police is searching for him.
