Cops quiz Dawood brother in Salem attack cas
The Mumbai crime branch officials on Monday questioned underworld don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar’s brother Iqbal Kaskar in connection with the firing on gangster Abu Salem in Navi Mumbai’s Taloja Jail on Thursday.
According to sources, Kaskar had come to the crime branch headquarters at Crawford Market on Monday evening after officials from the anti-extortion cell called him for questioning. He was questioned for around an hour and was let go after his statement was recorded. Since, Dawood’s henchman Chhota Shakeel had claimed responsibility in the bid to kill Salem and claimed that it was D-gang’s operation, the police is verifying the involvement by questioning those associated with Dawood. The police has also checked Kaskar’s phone details. Two more people were called for questioning, sources added.
Kaskar was deported to India from UAE in 2003 and was booked for murder and land grabbing and under the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. He was also named in the case involving the makeover of Crawford Market but was later cleared of all charges and acquitted.
Meanwhile, Devendra Baburao Jagtap alias JD, who shot at Salem, was remanded to police custody till July 6 by a magistrate court.
