Cops to take DNA sample of Laila’s grandmom

The crime branch will be taking DNA samples of Selina’s mother to match them with those of the skeletons found at Igatpuri to establish their identities. A toxicology examination will be conducted by J.J. Hospital to find out whether Parvez Tak had poisoned the victims, to establish whether it was a premeditated offence. The two vehicles seized by the Jammu & Kashmir police will also be brought to Mumbai for forensic analysis to ascertain if the vehicles have bloodstains belonging to the accused, who were also injured in the incident.
“The department of anatomy and toxicology at J.J. Hospital will be performing a toxicology test to find out if there was an inducement of poison or toxics in any of the skeletons recovered. If those are found then it would be established that it was a premeditated plan. So far, Tak has said that the murders were committed in a fit of rage at the spur of the moment. Tak is a seasoned criminal and might be giving this theory to turn the case into culpable homicide and not murder,” said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime.
Mr Roy said that the doctors are also reconstructing the body parts to find out whom the bodies belong to. “So far it is clear that five of the recovered body parts are female and one is male. It will not be difficult to identify Imran’s body as he was the only male victim and Reshma Khan alias Talli, 19 and Selina, 52 can also be identified. But it will be difficult to ascertain the identities of the bodies of other three women who are more or less of the same age group,” he said.
DNA samples of Selina and Reshma’s mothers will be taken to match them with the skeletons. “Both of them are alive and we will request them to give their DNA samples to match with those of the deceased. We might consider taking Laila’s father Nadir Patel’s DNA for the same,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
