Cops thrash man, urinate on his face
Allegations surfaced against three cops of assaulting a youth and then urinating on his face in Park Circus Maidan on Thursday night. Mohammed Rafique, a resident of Jan Road, was returning home when a group of four youths beat him up following a brawl over a match box at around 10.30 pm.
Rafique sought help of three police constables of the Beniapukur police station, who were patrolling in plain clothes. They, however, assaulted him on the road and even urinated on his face, Rafique alleged. The injured was admitted to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. The doctors, however, found him intoxicated.
Angry over the incident, local people demonstrated at the police station and lodged a complaint against the errant cops. Rafique’s father Abdul Hanif said, “My son told me that the cops urinated on him. We have demanded insaaf (justice) in the complaint. Deputy commissioner of police (eastern suburban division) and officer-in-charge cooperated with us.”
“I was working at the party office. Soon, Rafique’s father came running and narrated the incident,” said councillor of ward 60 Gulzar Zia. Later, one of the police personnel was identified as Dipankar Chakraborty.
