Countdown for PSLV-C22 begins from today
Nellore: Shar Director, Dr M.Y.S. Prasad said that the stage is set for the launch of PSLV-C22 with IRNSS-1A on board on July 1 at 11:41 pm and countdown would begin from 7:11 am on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons at Kalpana Guest house in Shar on Friday, he said that the IRNSS-1A (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System) was made totally with indigenous technology. He said that Russia, China and USA had already launched such satellites earlier. He expressed confidence in launching the satellite as per schedule while reacting to a question on postponement of the launch to June 12.
He said that a technical snag in the second stage led to change the launch plan then. He said that the satellite would send the signals one week after it was placed in the orbit. He said that IRNSS-1A is capable of providing information on the location of vehicles, ships and aircrafts up to 1,500 km range in India.
The satellite weighs about 1,425 kg and its life span is around 10 years. Mr Prasad said they have plans to launch GSAT-14 through GSLV-D5 from the second launch pad on August 6.
