Court: File FIR against Bedi

Fresh allegations of corruption against Team Anna member Kiran Bedi surfaced on Saturday with a Delhi court directing the city police to file an FIR against her on charges of cheating and misappropriation of funds. The court order came

following a complaint against the former IPS officer alleging that she siphoned off funds meant for providing computer training to policemen and their families.
When contacted, Ms Bedi said though she is aware of the court order, she does not know any details. “I still have no idea of the FIR, its contents, or even the complainant,” she told this newspaper. “I am informed an FIR is registered against me. For me now nothing is a surprise! It only strengthens my resolve to do more,” she said on Twitter.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Amit Bansal directed the Delhi police crime branch to register a case against Ms Bedi on a complaint by city-based lawyer Devinder Singh Chauhan who claims that she “looted” many paramilitary and state police forces by promising to impart free computer training through “Meri Police” programme under the banner of her NGO “India Vision Foundation”.
In his complaint, Mr Chauhan has claimed that Ms Bedi receives huge amounts of money from abroad as donations to her two trusts — India Vision Foundation and Navjyoti Foundation — and the matter needs to be probed by the ED. He has alleged that she is liable to be prosecuted under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 477A (falsification of accounts) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The complaint has alleged that Ms Bedi’s trust received over `50 lakh as donation for Microsoft to impart free computer training to BSF, CISF, ITBP and CRPF personnel and to those of other state police forces as well as their children and spouses.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
