Court order on plea against PC today
Whether or not home minister P. Chidambaram should be prosecuted in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case will most likely be decided by a Delhi court on Saturday, two days after the top court handed over the issue to it.
On the plea of Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy to make Mr Chidambaram an accused in the case, special CBI judge O.P. Saini, who had reserved his order, will deliver it most likely on Saturday.
A bench of justices G.S. Singhvi and A.K. Ganguly, which asked the lower court not to get influenced by its decision, had also refused to direct the CBI to “investigate Chidam-baram”.
The top court’s verdict on Thursday pulled up Raja and also cancelled 122 2G licences. Nothing in the verdict, however, pointed towards the Prime Minister and then finance minister P. Chidambaram.
On January 21, the special CBI judge reserved the order for Saturday on the plea of Mr Swamy who alleged that Mr Chidambaram was equally culpable like former communications minister A. Raja as he also had a role in deciding the spectrum pricing and allowing telecom companies to off-load shares to foreign firms.
The court, on February 1, also halted for two days the ongoing day-to-day trial in the case for writing the much-awaited order on Mr Swamy’s plea against Mr Chidambaram.
Mr Swamy, who concluded arguments in the trial court in support of his plea, had said the evidence brought on record, prima facie established that Mr Chidambaram was also culpable like Raja in the case.
