Court orders second PM
Chennai: The two judge bench of the Madras HC hearing the petition seeking re-postmortem of Ilavarasan’s body on Wednesday ordered two private forensic medicine experts to examine the body and table a report at 10.30am on Friday.
Justices V. Dhanapalan and C. T. Selvam directed Dr Thangaraj, HoD, forensic medicine, SRMMC & RC, and Dr P Sampath Kumar, professor of forensic medicine cum vice-principal, SRMC, to allow the doctors, if required, to conduct surgical examination and take X-rays to frame an opinion on the likelihood of any internal injuries.
The doctors were open to conduct further surgical examination, if necessary, the judges said directing Dharmapuri SP to provide them videograph and PM report. Noting that the PM report was silent on change in the skin texture, the judges said though they don’t have no reason to suspect any wrong doing in the conduct of PM, they were conscious that petitioner’s intention was not to pursue an unjust case.
The bench considered the petition seeking re-postmortem to a “limited extent” on the ground that “it is a cry for justice by the downtrodden and the oppressed.”
Rebutting petitioner counsels contention that the doctors involved in the PM team were not experienced, the government counsel argued that Dr K Thunder chief who headed the PM team had performed 3,200 autopsies.
Contending petitioners claim that autopsy was performed with insufficient lighting the government advocate argued that all clinical standards were followed and doctors would have stopped if the lighting were insufficient.
