Cousins held for trainee nun rape
The Orissa police on Monday arrested two of the three youth who allegedly gangraped a 28-year-old trainee nun after holding her in captivity for nearly a week.
Two of the three accused are cousins of the victim.
One more youth involved in the crime is absconding and effort was on to arrest him, Baliguda sub-divisional police officer K.V. Singh said. The arrested persons were identified as Jatindra Subhasunder and Jogendra Subhasunder, two brothers.
Quoting the victim’s first information report (FIR), the police said the girl, who was being trained as a nun at the St. Mary Convent in Chennai, received a call from a woman informing her that her mother was in a serious condition.
“After she alighted from the train at the Berhampur railway station in Ganjam district on July 5, she was picked up by the two cousins in a car. She had no reason to suspect them as two of them were sons of her father’s elder brother,” the SDOP said.
He added that the accused, instead of taking the girl to their village under Bramhanigaon police station in Kandhamal district, proceeded to some unidentified place in Gajapati district where they held her captive for a week and repeatedly raped her before dropping her back at the Berhampur railway station on July 11.
She was threatened not to disclose the incident to anyone. “The victim told her mother about her ordeal after reaching home last Saturday following which the family lodged a police complaint,” Mr Singh said.
The police has registered a case under Section 355 (assault to dishonour person), 366 (kidnapping), 343 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), 501 (printing defamatory matter) and 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
