C.P. Thakur agrees to withdraw resignation
The BJP’s Bihar crisis seems to be over for now. State unit chief C.P. Thakur, who had quit his post on Friday, agreed to withdraw his resignation after meeting party’s central leaderhsip. Sources said Dr Thakur who met BJP top brass including party chief Nitin Gadkari on Saturday, was assured that his grievances, which included denying his son an Assembly ticket, would be looked into. Sources further disclosed BJP top brass assured him an MLC seat for his son.
Six-phased Assembly polls in the state are beginning from October 21 and with Dr Thakur’s resignation, the party’s state unit had gone into complete disarray.
Though Dr Thakur denied that he had resigned because his son was not given a party ticket to contest the coming Assembly polls, sources said he was unhappy with BJP’s decision to give Digha constituency to its alliance partner JD(U).
Dr Thakur had staked claim for the seat and wanted to field his son Vivek on a party ticket.
He was also miffed as most of the candidates announced by the BJP for coming Assembly polls are considered close to party colleague and Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi. Infact, Mr Modi, under attack from dissidents on the ticket distribution issue, claimed that selection of candidates was “a collective decision”.
Mr Modi said a wider process was adopted for the selection of candidates by the BJP and it was the 18-member state election committee that was involved in selecting candidates, keeping in mind their winnability factor.
