CPI, BJP, TRS leaders join resignation spree
With the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, CPI and the BJP leaders joining the resignation spree on Tuesday, the total number of resignations rose to 100.
Two MPs and 11 MLAs of the TRS, four MLAs of the CPI and two MLAs of the BJP resigned from their respective seats in tune with the Congress, the Telugu Desam and the Praja Rajyam leaders from the Telangana region to bring pressure on the Centre to carve out a separate state.
As the Telangana region started observing a two-day bandh beginning on Tuesday, TRS chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Ms Vijayashanti, both MPs, faxed their resignations as per the prescribed rules to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
Meanwhile in New Delhi, two Telugu Desam MPs from Telangana, Mr Nama Nageswara Rao (Khammam) and Mr Ramesh Rathod (Adilabad) met Ms Kumar and submitted their resignations. With these, the number of resignations of MPs from Telangana rose to 13 out of a total of 17.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao and Ms Vijayashanti will also call on the Speaker later to personally submit their resignations.
On Tuesday evening, the TRS MLAs, Mr Etala Rajender, Mr T. Harish Rao, Mr K.T. Rama Rao, Mr Nallala Odelu and Mr Koppula Eswar met the Legislature Secretary, Dr Raja Sadaram and submitted their resignations. The other TRS MLAs faxed theirs’ in. Three suspended TRS MLAs, Mr K. Vidyasagar Rao, Mr E. Ravinder Reddy and Mr Kaveti Sammaiah also submitted their resignations to the Legislature Secretary in the Assembly, promising to fight for Telangana and to return to Telangana Bhavan soon.
TRS MLC, Mr Naradasu Laxman Rao, also faxed his resignation to the Legislative Council chairman.
This is the third time that TRS MLAs have quit for the Telangana cause.
