CPI(M) for implementation of 'no work, no pay' on MPs
With almost the entire Monsoon session of Parliament washed out by BJP protests, CPI(M) on Friday strongly advocated implementation of 'no work, no pay' principle on Parliamentarians.
"If you can implement the 'no work, no pay' principle on the workers when they go on strike, you should apply it for MPs too," CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said.
His comments came on the last day of the Monsoon session, which saw disruption of proceedings for 13 out of 19 working days by the BJP on the coal allocation issue.
Yechury said he had raised the demand in Rajya Sabha two years ago when "the Chairman (Hamid Ansari) had laughed."
Yechury said "today when the Chairman lamented that this session will be remembered for the work not done, we (Left members) welcomed the remark and thumped the desks."
"The principle of equality in the Constitution should be applied here also and there should be 'no work, no pay' for MPs if it is applied on the workers," the CPI(M) leader added.
