CPM, AIADMK in alliance for TN polls
Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Tuesday announced that his party would enter into an electoral understanding with the AIADMK to fight the state Assembly elections.
After calling on AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence here, Mr Karat said he conveyed to her his party’s decision.
Mr Karat said he also invited her to participate in the anti-price rise agitation being organised by nine Left and secular parties in Delhi on Feb. 9.
Mr Karat said she would take a decision on participation.
Earlier in the day, the two-day state committee meeting of the CPI(M), chaired by Mr Karat, adopted a resolution deciding to enter into an understanding with the AIADMK and the Left parties to defeat the DMK-Congress alliance in the Assembly elections.
The party has constituted a three-member committee headed by state secretary G. Ramakrishnan for holding seat-sharing talks with the AIADMK.
The CPI(M) had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as part of the AIADMK-led front.
