CPM mulls ideology draft
As former West Bengal chief minister and senior CPI(M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattachar-jee once again skipped the party central committee meet which began here on Friday, the CPI(M) leaders began deliberations on the draft
ideological document even as the thrust was on drawing a fine balance between democratic practices and democratic centralism within the party.
Party sources said that the need is felt since in states like West Bengal particularly, democratic centralism in practice seems to have been distorted with centralisation and commandism. The draft ideological document, being debated and discussed by the party before it is finally placed in the party congress to be held next year, is also going to spell out the major Left party’s political ideological line keeping in view the emerging political scenario.
The party’s stand vis-a-vis other “non-Congress, non-BJP parties”, like the BSP, RJD, AIADMK and others, has often come under criticism in the recent past being accused of opportunism rather than ideological understandings. With the Winter Session round the corner, the party is keen to raise issues like price rise, corruption and the demand for a Lokpal Bill but a section of party leaders has cautioned on aligning with such parties who do not share similar ideological views.
